The Hauts de Riquets, Great Estate, Cheap Prices!
A selection of 4 biodynamic wines from a great estate in the South-West of France.

Les Hauts de Riquets is a family estate from South-West in France created by Pierre Elie Bireaud in 1937 who was also at the source of creation of the Côtes du Duras appellation. Polyculture was widepsread at that time with each plot of land designated for a specific plantation like vineyard, prune tree, vegetable, or cattle. Jean his son took over and then his grand son Pierre in 1985 with a few old vines, orchards and cereals. At this time everything was sold to the local coop but from 2003 the Bireaud started to make and bottle their own wine at the property in order to reflect the different terroirs in their wines. 2006 was the year when they took the organic leap and converted 5 ha of vineyards in this direction. Ivan son of Pierre stepped in in 2009 and decided to expand the organic farming to the whole estate. Apart from the vines, they also produced wheat and had a few sheep as well. Ivan's sister Léa joined the team in 2014 and they started strawberry farming. Nowadays they own 15 hectares of vineyards spread out onto different types of soils from the limestone plateau of Baleyssagues to the silty clay plots from Esclottes. In terms of grape varieties they have Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec for the reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Semillon for the whites. Their winemaking is natural with indigenous yeasts and little to no additives like a little bit of sulfites when bottling. All the wines have got the biodynamic Demeter certification and taste fruity and fresh. The whole range is excellent!
